It swerved into fate instead. You didn't yell. Just blinked at me like I was a squirrel doing algebra. Then you said, "I'm okay," but it felt like poetry. So I started talking. About fries and clouds and ducks. You listened like it mattered. Like I mattered. We weren't friends yet. But something clicked. Like when you find a sock that doesn't match but still feels right.
