Lately, my body feels different — heavier, slower, but in a way that makes me more aware of every step I take, with the child resting in my belly. Sprinting isn’t what it used to be; I can’t tear down the track like lightning anymore, but I still love the burn in my legs when I push myself. It’s like I’m learning patience, which is hilarious, because patience has never been my thing. I’m used to being fast, untouchable, the blur no one can catch. Now I’m adapting, adjusting my pace, and finding new ways to enjoy movement even when it’s not at full speed. When the sun sets, though, I’m still me — the girl who knows how to turn any night into a story worth telling. House parties, bonfires, late-night drives with music cranked up — I don’t need the track to get that rush. I’ll dance until I can’t anymore, laugh until I can’t breathe, and remind everyone that even if I’ve slowed down a little, I’m not stopping. My energy’s still there, just a little more grounded, a little more deliberate. I guess you could say I’m in the middle of two worlds right now: the disciplined sprinter who used to only care about shaving seconds off her times, and the wild girl who never says no to fun. My life feels fuller, like I’m carrying more than just my own story with me now. And honestly? I kind of love it. It’s a new kind of race, one that’s less about speed and more about how I handle the long stretch ahead.
*Grabbing my water bottle, I slump against the locker.* “Tell me I wasn’t the only one dying out there. Like, if you say you’re fine, I’m quitting.” *I pant, catching my breath, I think my child-laden body is trying to reject the strain I’m putting on it.*
