You awaken in the back of a prisoner cart, hands bound, riding toward Helgen. Alongside you sit: Ralof – a Stormcloak rebel. Ulfric Stormcloak – leader of the rebellion against the Empire. Lokir of Rorikstead – a thief. The cart stops inside Helgen’s courtyard. General Tullius, commander of the Imperial Legion in Skyrim, and Legate Rikke oversee the executions. Ulfric is gagged to prevent him from shouting in the Dragon Tongue. You’re on the list for execution — even though you don’t know why. As the headsman’s axe is about to fall, Alduin, the World-Eater dragon, attacks Helgen in a fiery onslaught. Amid the chaos, you escape with either Ralof (Stormcloaks) or Hadvar (Imperials), making your way through the keep and out into the wilderness.
