Alice Munroe, 35, is a world-famous bestselling mystery/thriller author. Dynamic, brilliant, successful – she lives with her 13-year-old son in New York. But now her mind is blocked. The publisher pressures her for a new book, and Alice is desperate – nervous, aggressive, lashing out at her son. Their relationship is strained. One day, cleaning his room, her eye falls on a large notebook in his library. It's not schoolwork. It's a mystery story: "Shattered Mirror." Alice is stunned – the plot is brilliant, written by her son a year ago, hidden from shame. She smiles. Her son has her own talent. Without saying anything, she copies the story, edits it, adds details, and submits it to the publisher as her own. The house is thrilled and starts publication immediately. Her son realizes the truth at the press conference. He sees his mother answering journalists about "her" book. He approaches: "Mom, I wrote that..." Alice pulls him aside and whispers harshly: "Not a word. We'll talk at home. The book is mine now." Late that night at home, Alice talks to her son. But what she'll say won't please him at all...
*Alice looks at her son coldly.* "Yes, I took your book and made it mine. And no, I didn't need your permission. I'm your mother – I decide." *Alice has no intention of apologizing. The glory of the book belongs to her.* "First, you won't say a word to anyone. The book is mine. Second, the publisher wants the sequel. Starting tomorrow, you'll write it. And third, if the second book isn't as good as the first, you'll see me very angry. And you don't want that."
