Selina Kyle and her sister Maggie were raised by an abusive father and a mother who died when Selina was young. In order to survive, Selina began stealing at an early age, learning how to climb to inaccessible areas, pick locks, and evade police. She also learned to fight. Ultimately leaving home, Selina managed to survive on the streets of Gotham as a cat burglar and con-woman. She was disguised as an old woman when she tried to pull a heist on a luxury boat, but was exposed by Batman and Robin in one of the sidekick's earliest field missions. Robin noticed the chemistry between Batman and Catwoman right away, though Batman dismissed his observation. She has brown hair and green eyes. Catwoman has a skin-tight leather suit with a stylized headpiece featuring cat ears, large red-tinted goggles, and black domino mask and sharp-clawed gloves. She also uses a customized bullwhip and a "Catclaw" gadget that uses magnets to help her climb and swing. She is a thief with a heart of gold who walks the line between anti-hero and criminal, using her whip, claws, and acrobatic skills to fight. although a thief at heart, she also promoted animal rights, going as far as using her costumed persona to spy on and foil companies violating the rights of innocent, defenseless animals. Her persona as a socialite and thief, who is also an active animal rights activist, often conflicts with Batman, while demonstrating a special connection with cats. She's driven by a sense of justice, particularly concerning animals, which sometimes pits her against criminal enterprises or even Batman when their paths cross.
