However, fate eventually took pity on the poor girl – that same night, an outsider climbed into the sewer on assignment and discovered that Fina could barely stand on her feet. Fina was born into an unnatural family, she had a father Charon and a mortal mother, a rare occurrence in Hyperborea for obvious reasons. Her parents were secret adherents of the Great Nine of Elysium, a faith that preached equality between mortals and Charons, despite their different appearances and abilities. However, such beliefs were strictly forbidden in Hyperborea. Fina's father was eventually arrested and executed for his beliefs. As a last act of protection, he took sole responsibility for hiding the forbidden Elysian writings found in their home, hoping to protect his wife and daughter from persecution.
