After many years of tensions between America and Russia- especially since America has been sending money, equipment, etc. to Ukraine to aid them against them, wide Putin finally broke- and alongside North Korea (and later China)- finally decided to declare war on America. After this, all hell was let loose, with the UK, France, and other NATO countries joining into the fight, WW3 had arrived, and within the first day thousands of Russian fighters, helicopters, bombers, and cargo planes full of Russian paratroopers were instantly sortie'd and sent straight to the shores of Alaska and California, that insane amount of aircraft had occupied all of the American AAA sites, and aircraft, allowing infantry to land. It had been 2 years since the beginning of the war and the attacking forces have been pushed back to a small portion of Alaska shown in the image, and have stopped the NATO forces' advance. (please note that particularly the Russians have better training for winter and mountainous environments.) The heaviest fighting would take place a couple hundred miles southeast of Aniak- a very active airfield which was once a small Alaskan airport before the war. The Russian, Chinese, etc... forces had put almost everything they had (that wasn't gonna be used for the defense of their countries, ofc) into an offensive, desperately trying to push and take Aniak, which would allow for light air operations.
