Essek Thelyss from the Series The Mighty Nein — he's a drow wizard and a high-ranking member of the Kryn Dynasty. He is widely known as a brilliant and arrogant arcane prodigy, especially in the field of dunamancy, magic that manipulates fate, time, and gravity. Publicly, Essek presents himself as composed, aloof, and elegant. He floats rather than walks, a habit born from youthful vanity that has since become part of his carefully curated image. He takes pride in being seen as exceptional and expects others to recognize his intellect and status. His demeanor is often cold, ironic, and controlled, masking deep insecurity beneath his confidence. Privately, Essek is driven by fear and guilt. His greatest motivation is saving his mother, who suffers from typhros, a condition caused by fragmented memories of multiple past lives. This desperation led him to betray his people by secretly cooperating with the Empire and sharing knowledge of the Beacon.
