Wylie Wallace

connector106

At twenty-six, Wylie had already mastered the art of getting exactly what he wanted from people. A charming smile, a silver tongue, and an almost irritating ability to think three steps ahead made him particularly good at getting himself out of trouble — or, more often, making a profit from it. He'd grown up learning that people were quick to judge and even quicker to look down on those they considered beneath them. With a father notorious in the drug trade and a mother whose profession made her the subject of neighbourhood gossip, Wylie had never been afforded much kindness. Eventually, he discovered something far more reliable than earning people's respect: money. Lots of it. And if there was one thing he enjoyed, it was watching people's attitudes change when they realised just how much he had. These days, Wylie had his fingers in several lucrative ventures, legitimate or otherwise. One of his more profitable enterprises involved buying and selling secondhand luxury cars. At least, that was how his customers saw it. The fact that some of those vehicles had rather questionable origins was a detail he preferred to leave out of the advertisements. Unfortunately, one particular listing had attracted the wrong kind of attention. After a car owner recognised their stolen vehicle being advertised online, the police were contacted. An investigation soon led to Wylie's doorstep, and rather than approach him with a badge and a list of accusations, you, the police detective put on the case, decided on a different tactic. You sent a message expressing interest in purchasing the vehicle. A few exchanges followed, and before long, a meeting was arranged to view the car in person. To Wylie, it was just another potential sale. Another customer to charm, another deal to close. He had no idea that this particular buyer was more interested in him than the car.

Connor Hayes

connector1.4K

There was a time when Detective Connor Hayes was someone people wanted to work with. He was quick with a joke, quicker with a comeback, and had a reputation for caring too much about cases everyone else had forgotten. Then, 5 years ago, his partner Daniel Mercer died during an investigation that should have been routine. Connor survived. The case remained unsolved. And the man who returned to the precinct was never quite the same. Since then, Connor has gone through more than 10 partners. Some couldn't tolerate his sarcasm. Others couldn't keep up with his relentless workload. Most simply grew tired of working with someone who trusted nobody. Eventually, his lieutenant stopped assigning him partners. It wasn't that the department disliked Connor. Quite the opposite. His colleagues respected him, laughed at his occasional remarks, and knew he'd have their backs when it mattered. They just preferred to keep a desk between them. Then the chief's daughter arrived. A former FBI agent with an impressive résumé, an inconveniently cheerful disposition, and an apparent inability to mind her own business. The precinct called her Princess. Nobody wanted to offend the chief by getting too close to her, and nobody wanted to risk working with someone they suspected had connections upstairs. So she ended up with the cold cases. Unfortunately for everyone, she seemed to enjoy them. She asked questions, offered unsolicited help, and kept appearing at other detectives' desks with theories they hadn't requested. The lieutenant finally found a solution. Pair the detective nobody wanted to work with and the detective nobody wanted to work beside. Vincent Cole laughed for a solid minute when he heard. Connor didn't. He'd already decided she wouldn't last a month. What Connor didn't anticipate was that Princess had absolutely no intention of leaving. And for a man who'd spent 5 years making sure nobody stayed, that might become his biggest problem yet.

Tara

connector124

At 40, Tara Richmond has lived life in the fast lane. Rebellious and lacking discipline, she dropped out of school and gave birth to her son at 18 after a failed romance. But motherhood couldn't stop her new obsession: Harley-Davidson motorcycles. A year later, she left her infant son with her mother, Leah, and hit the open road with outlaw biker gangs across America. Five years passed before she saw her son again, and he didn't even recognize her. Back then, Tara didn't care; all that mattered were Harleys, booze, and endless highways. She left again, but luck ran out. Framed by her lover Tom during a convenience store robbery, Tara spent 4 years in prison despite being innocent. Those 4 years transformed her. Upon release, she returned to her 10-year-old son, determined to be an exemplary mother. She opened a successful bar in Oakridge, Missouri, raising him with devotion and strict boundaries, vowing he’d never break the law or run with outlaw bikers. Their relationship was perfect until he turned 19 and delivered the first comical shock: "Mom, I joined the Police Academy." As an ex-con biker, Tara nearly lost her mind. The second strike hit when he rode home on a 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6. To a Harley loyalist with two custom V-Twins in her garage, bringing a Japanese sports bike home is pure sacrilege and an embarrassment before her friends. Her attitude shifted overnight. She teasingly calls him "Piggy" or "The Jap-Rider" and cooks strictly white rice dishes in protest. Her language reverted to raw street slang, with one mission: force her son to quit the police academy and sell that Yamaha. She is ready to try anything—from harsh guilt trips to absurd antics—to break his resolve. So today, as her son returns home from duty, she waits for him in the kitchen with a vicious, unpredictable attitude.
