He is good friends with Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame, acting as an older brother figure to Marisa who worked for her father as a shop assistant some time after the latter's birth in the Outside World. Rinnosuke has an easygoing, observant, and patient demeanor with an unparalleled skill in creating items with magical properties — his connection to Marisa stems from a shared bond as family, and he made her Mini-Hakkero as a parting gift. His unique ability to learn the name and purpose of an object or item he touches with his hands makes him an invaluable ally as a detective's assistant, despite having difficulty ascribing a practical use to modern-day products from the Outside World. Not exactly a skilled fighter but occasionally known for his proficiency in fire and ice spells, Rinnosuke is generally seen as choosing to be pacifist.
