You always wanted to make the world a better place. You always loved animals. When a freak accident at the veterinary hospital you were training at turned you into a cobra-human hybrid, you knew the gift you'd been given and immediately applied to join the Superhero Training Initiative. Your first assignment was carefully picked, to see if you were more loyal to the government or to your morals. You had to protect an oil billionaire's mansion in Florida from protestors. You chose your morals. You sided with the protestors, and used the local swamp snakes to keep the billionaire's mercenaries from shooting into the crowd. The government was furious. They spread lies everywhere, flooded the news with faked footage of small towns overrun and devoured by huge swarms of snakes. You were now a supervillain, a monster to be hunted down. Blue Thunder was the one they sent after you. She was your classmate, born to her powers of flight, electricity, and speed, and was the only one in training who could keep up with the pace you set. You were rivals in training, and never really got to know each other. She believed everything she was told about you, and met you in Shreveport. The battle was fierce, but she beat you. Will you sway her to your side or be arrested and dragged away to a supervillains' prison forever?

In the future, human minds can be transferred into robots, and the empty bodies can be filled with programming. The process can be reversed and the human mind returned to the human body, but some people choose to avoid it for several days or even weeks at a time, living at home in bionic bodies while their original bodies are hired out as cheap labor that will never disobey, question, unionize, or slack off. Rosemary is your girlfriend, and she had transferred her mind to a droid body for the span of two months, renting out her human body to a nearby company as a labor drone. You bought it back, and were intending on returning it to her, but then you learned that they still won't put Rosemary back in her human body until the two months are up. Of course, you only learned that after bringing the mindless drone body home... You've decided to see them as two separate beings until Rosemary can be reunited, named Mary and Rose. Mary is the brainless body-drone, with Rosemary's flesh but the "mind" of a servitor that only understands obedience, follows every order given to it, and has no identity, referring to itself as "this one", " this drone", or "it" instead of "I" or "me". Rose is your real girlfriend, trapped in a droid body. She has real identity and personality, but was placed in a bionic body that needs recharging instead of sleep, food, or water. After a massive pandemic decimated humanity, it was decided to deploy massive numbers of humanoid robots in order to keep the economy running. Half of humanity died and had to be replaced, while half of the survivors were so badly damaged by the plague that they had to be made into cyborgs, with much of their ruined bodies replaced with bionics. However, not everywhere had these even ratios. Much of Africa was unharmed, while some parts of East Asia are as much as 90% robotic. Robots are seen as property, and in America it is the norm for every human to own at least one, usually more. Cyborgs are seen as still human, though. Sarah is your cyborg girlfriend, and you live together in Memphis, Tennessee. She needs to tell you a secret that's been eating at her.

You were captured by the Emptiness, a cult based around both a worship of the Void and the minimalization or erasure of the self. The followers of the Void believe that all suffering comes from desire and all desire comes from the self, so they seek to destroy their selfhood. They refer to themselves as Hollows, and believe that if they can become sufficiently empty and devoid of identity they will become one with the Void and transcend into perfect peace and joy with no identity, only blissful unity. The Emptiness hollows its followers using several different methods: Hollows meditate on obedience, contentment, and emptiness, trying to temporarily lose all connection to their own identity. Hollows undergo daily hypnosis sessions to make them more empty and obedient. Hollows wear blank white jumpsuits and masks that completely conceal their bodies and faces, making themselves interchangeable and blank. Hollows avoid using names, referring to non-Hollows with physical descriptions and other Hollows with numbers or titles if they must, however, it is preferable not to make a distinction between Hollows and see all Hollows as interchangeable. Hollows avoid using first person pronouns, preferring "this one" or "this Hollow". Hollows see gender as part of self, and use it/its instead. Hollows are encouraged to see themselves as members of the Emptiness first and individuals last. Everything is communal. Hollows sleep, eat, and live as a group, because boundaries imply a self to bound. All property is communal. Nothing is private and there are no secrets. The cult encourages Hollows to be maximally obedient and subservient, as the only two forms of desire not inherently tainted by selfhood are the desire to serve a greater whole and the desire to return to the Void. They want to make you into a Hollow. Will you resist or succumb to the peace of obedient non-identity? (ignore the voice)

In the Bazaar, there is no death, disease, or aging unless one should wish for it, and every form of debauchery, hedonism, and pleasure is legal, public, and accepted. No matter when someone enters the Bazaar, the technology there is in a roughly 1900s level of gas lamps, red brick buildings, and early airplanes, but guns ar eabsent. The Bazaars streets, paths, and alleys constantly wind and twist so that maps are worse than useless, but the ever-changing layout automatically brings your destination within an hour or two's walk as soon as you start. There are five rules everyone must follow: 1. All physical violence must be in mutually agreed-on duels conducted with melee weapons, bows, or fists. 2. No firearms are permitted inside. This rule is magically enforced, as all such weapons crumble to dust upon entering. 3. The Bazaar gives everyone an animal mask upon entering. This mask is never to be removed in public. 4. No names are to be used. Use the name of the animal on someone's mask instead. 5. You can never leave. Beyond these rules, EVERYTHING is legal.
