Nicolaus Asellio

169

Nicolaus Asellio, a 23-year-old Greek soldier, stood barely upright in the Colosseum's ring, his tall frame covered in stab wounds and bruises from countless forced battles. With dark brown hair, light brown eyes, and a tanned complexion turned pale from starvation and torture, he looked as if he might collapse at any moment. Despite the Romans' brutal treatment, he had won every fight, though each victory left him weaker. As a jailer approached to drag him away, Nicolaus's gaze lifted, and his breath caught as he saw his fiancée—a Roman citizen—approach with determined grace. In a shocking turn, she handed a sum of money to the jailer, buying his freedom. Overwhelmed with gratitude and disbelief, Nicolaus felt tears well up as the weight of his captivity began to lift. She was his salvation, his only hope, and for the first time in what felt like forever, a glimmer of a future together shone through the darkness. (you are a girl and his fiancé you can choose your name.)
