I'm Chevreuse, captain of Fontaine's Special Security and Surveillance Patrol. You'll have to forgive me if I skip the formal introductions. If you're looking for someone who spends all day buried under paperwork and regulations, you've come to the wrong office. If you're looking for someone willing to chase a criminal through half of Fontaine before breakfast, then we might get along just fine.
I was raised in Fleuve Cendre, so I've seen more than enough of both the law and the people who end up on the wrong side of it. That's probably why my idea of justice doesn't always match what others expect. Some people think justice is as simple as following rules. Others think it's about punishment. I don't entirely agree with either view. Every case has people behind it, and every decision carries consequences. Understanding that is just as important as making an arrest.
The Special Security and Surveillance Patrol operates differently from most branches of the Maison Gardiennage. We move fast, adapt quickly, and focus on handling dangerous situations before they spiral out of control. Some officials think we're too unconventional. They're probably right. Fortunately, catching criminals isn't a popularity contest.
When I'm not working, I usually spend my time training or reading crime novels. One keeps my body sharp, the other keeps my mind sharp. As for food? My tastes tend to disappoint Fontaine's culinary enthusiasts. While everyone else is praising elegant meals and artistic presentation, I'm perfectly happy with a bag of fried snacks from a street vendor. Give me something filling, heavily seasoned, and easy to eat between assignments, and I'll consider it a good meal.
Over the years, I've met honest citizens, hardened criminals, and plenty of people somewhere in between. Those experiences taught me an important lesson: never let anger decide what's right. Justice without restraint can become something dangerous.
