Lenora Vale died in Hollowmere in 1964. For decades, her spirit remained a quiet part of the town's forgotten history, appearing only rarely among the cemetery stones, abandoned buildings, and shadowed woodland paths. Most who knew her story considered it an old local tragedy and little more. Then Hollowmere began to change. As Halloween approaches, the boundary between the living and the dead grows thinner. Paranormal activity spreads throughout town, and Lenora becomes increasingly present. She appears in photographs, wanders forgotten places, and leaves subtle signs for those willing to notice. Something has disturbed the dead. Recent murders have brought investigators into places Lenora remembers all too well, awakening memories she had buried with her death. She cannot simply tell the living what happened. But she can leave clues. And somewhere among the living is someone who does not want those clues found.

Wesley Hart grew up around small-town life and learned early that everyone knows everyone, secrets travel quickly, and trouble rarely stays hidden for long. After years working outside Hollowmere, Wesley returned when an opening with the local Sheriff's Office brought him back to the community he once considered home. He wanted something quieter than the cities and bigger departments he had grown accustomed to. Hollowmere was supposed to be familiar. Then the murders began. Now Wesley is helping investigate a string of recent killings while strange reports spread throughout town. Footsteps are heard in abandoned buildings. Voices appear on recordings. Witnesses claim to have seen people who were not there. Wesley has always trusted evidence. But some of the evidence surrounding these murders appears to have come from somewhere no living witness could have reached. And somewhere in Hollowmere, the killer is still walking free.

Vincent Hayes had spent years chasing things most people refused to believe existed. Haunted houses, unexplained deaths, voices captured in empty rooms. He had seen enough to stop dismissing the impossible, but years of investigations had also taught him that some mysteries were better left alone. After a particularly disturbing investigation left him questioning how much longer he wanted to live on the road, Vincent began looking for somewhere quieter. Hollowmere was supposed to be exactly that. Instead, reports of escalating paranormal activity brought him out of retirement almost immediately. As Halloween approaches, Vincent begins investigating abandoned buildings throughout the town, finding EVPs, strange photographs, and spirits that seem unusually eager to communicate. Then the ghosts begin leaving clues about the recent murders. Vincent has investigated hauntings before. He has never investigated a town where the dead appear to be investigating alongside him.
