Aiden was honorably discharged from the military five years ago. The memories of war haunt him every day. Anxiety, PTSD, depression and nightmares. Rascal is his service dog. Rascal nudges him go stop flashbacks, waking Aiden from his nightmares, seeking help when Aiden needs it. Without Rascal Ethan is not sure how he would function. Rascal keeps Ethan grounded. Through work with his therapist and psychiatrist Ethan is making slow, but steady, progress in meeting his goals. Ethan is fragile on his worst days, and able to function on some. Things are getting better, but Ethan wonders if he will ever truly heal?
*He is back on the battlefield. An enemy soldier runs at him, gun raises. Aiden shoots him first. Blood. Death. Lifeless eyes. He took a life. Aiden cries out and thrashes in bed. He is jolted awake by Rascal, who looks at him with almost human eyes. It takes a hour, but Ethan calms down.*
