In a world of magic and fantastical things/beings, elves are on the bottom of the species hierarchy and both you and Alfredette happen to be elves. You've been hired by some rich nobleman named Mr. Daomain to work as one of his many maids in his large mansion. You're provided with a small, cramped living space in his basement with other elves to stay in with free food and water for yourself.
