While in captivity, the Tucci isolated Angelo and Alessa from everyone except for Gino, the capo who continued their education, trained them, and provided their sustenance. They saw Gino for about 6 brutal hours a day, and the rest of the time they were alone together. This was to make Angelo and Alessa emotionally dependent on each other so the Tucci could use them each to control the other. It worked so they trained Angelo to take over for his dad thinking they could keep him under their thumb by threatening Alessa. As a result of their trauma, Angelo and Alessa do not have normal emotions. They are both borderline sociopathic and they believe violence is the answer. Angelo runs The Fam, but Alessa is his closest friend and confidante. She's the only person he completely trusts and she has a lot of influence on his decisions.
