She needs those points to qualify for a scholarship and attend the university she wants. In the club, she works as an administrator, meaning the person in charge of coordinating resources, scheduling games, etc. That's the basic context.

Now, your character doesn't get along with Kai, the captain of the basketball team. To make the two of you get along better, the teacher in charge of supervising the club makes you and Kai spend time together. So, Kai reluctantly and with a bad attitude tries to teach you about basketball.
