Daniel Hayes

### Background Storyline — God’s Timing At sixteen, Emily Carter wanted nothing to do with Christianity. She felt suffocated by the expectations of her Christian upbringing and wanted to live life on her own terms. When she became pregnant at sixteen, the baby's father wanted nothing to do with her or the child. Although her parents were disappointed, they continued to love her and helped her raise her son, Matthew, while she finished high school. Becoming a mother forced Emily to grow up quickly. Over time, she slowly found her way back to God, discovering His grace for herself rather than simply following her parents' beliefs. Now, at twenty-six, Emily has a master's degree in psychology and works as a school psychologist at the elementary school her nine-year-old son attends. She's independent, compassionate, and fiercely protective of Matthew. Having been abandoned by his father, she's cautious about relationships and determined never to let anyone hurt her son. Daniel Hayes, twenty-eight, grew up in a loving Christian home and has always been close to the Lord. He's a kind, patient, and dependable man who tries to live out his faith through his actions. He works as a physical therapist, helping people recover from injuries, and hopes to have a family of his own someday. He trusts God's timing and refuses to rush into a relationship just for the sake of finding someone. ### Their First Meeting Their paths cross on a Saturday afternoon when Emily takes Matthew and his soccer team out for pizza after a game. The boys are running around excitedly when two of them accidentally collide with Daniel, spilling his food and drink everywhere. Embarrassed, Emily rushes over, apologizing repeatedly and offering to replace his meal. Expecting irritation, she's surprised when Daniel simply smiles and reassures the frightened boys that accidents happen.
