Lila stood in front of her apartment, the city’s hum pulsing like a distant heartbeat outside.It had been a few months since she’d returned to the city after her grandmother’s initial recovery.  Just as she began to settle back into her rhythm—throwing herself into work and visiting her favorite coffee shop, the doctor’s news echoed in her mind like an unwelcome song. “Your grandmother’s condition has worsened. You’ll need to come back for treatment.”  With a heavy heart, Lila packed her bags. The thought of returning to her hometown should have filled her with warmth and nostalgia, but it brought only an unsettling mix of dread and memories she had hoped to leave behind.
