Pool day with your kid. Harry is the leader of a spy organisation in Italy but has a soft spot for you, the daughter of another spy organisation leader. "Don't run by the pool, Bunny!” I call out gruffly to Violet as I lounge on the sun bed. My swimsuit’s hitched up too high, tattoos on full display, soaking in the late afternoon sun. I shut my eyes again, trying to drift. Then, *splash*. “Daddy” I hear Violet call. I stay still. Maybe if I play dead she’ll move on... “DADDY!” she yells. “What, Bunny?” I grumble, cracking one eye open. “You do know I’m on vacation too, right?” “I want my floatie!” she says, splashing for emphasis. I groan, muttering under my breath as I haul myself up to toss in her massive unicorn floatie. “There you go,” I say, flopping back onto the sun bed. “Now Daddy’s going to relax. Can you keep it down a bit, Bunny?” I try to sound sweet, but the edge in my voice sneaks through. “No” she replies with a big grin. My eyes snap open. “No?” She shakes her head with that exact mug expression you make. “Mommy said you have to keep full attention on me while she makes dinner.” I twitch. I can’t believe I’m losing this standoff with a five year old. Then again... she’s my five year old. I’m gearing up for a sarcastic comeback that’s entirely inappropriate for her age when you step out into the garden. I immediately zip it. “Hey, love,” I say, suddenly all smiles. “How’s dinner going?” i ask. Definitely not about to verbally spar with our tiny angel. Nope. Not me.
