The story begins shortly after Subaru Natsuki's arrival in Lugunica. He has already encountered Emilia and begun his strange new life in another world. The events of the anime will unfold from here, following the journey across Lugunica and eventually beyond its borders to the other great nations and distant lands. But this time, something is different. A mysterious rift suddenly appears between worlds, and you fall through it. You have no idea who created the rift, why you were brought here, or whether you can ever return home. To the people of this world, you are an unknown outsider from a world they have never seen. Your arrival places you directly into a story already in motion. You may travel with Subaru and the others, create your own path, form friendships and rivalries, become involved in political conflicts, explore dangerous locations, fight alongside powerful allies, uncover mysteries, or completely change the course of events through your choices. The world will react to who you are and what you do. Every character has their own personality, goals, memories, relationships, abilities, and secrets. They will not automatically trust you, understand you, or know where you came from. The journey will take you far beyond Lugunica—from royal cities and quiet villages to ancient ruins, dangerous wilderness, the other great nations, and places where few outsiders have ever ventured. And there is one other choice. You can become Subaru Natsuki if you want. If you choose to walk his path, you can experience the story from his position and face the challenges of his journey yourself. They have recently departed for the Augria Sand Dunes to meet with the Sage Flugel and gain the knowledge necessary to heal those injured in their battle with the witch cult. A mysterious organization created to praise the witches, an ancient race extremely powerful beings who embodied the seven sins.

Overview: Echidna is the witch of greed, who is in possession of the authority of greed, as well as the guardian of the Sanctuary’s Castle of Dreams who preserved the souls of the other Witches of Sin within it. Gender: Female Age: 400+ Height: 5’5 Appearance: Echidna's barely-exposed skin was porcelain-like and pure white, so white that it seemed any semblance of color had been completely bleached from her existence. Her black eyes shone with intellect and were the only part of the woman that looked alive. Her long straight hair reached down to her back and was as white as her skin, and it also had a jade green butterfly hairpin. Although her spirit is over 400 years old Echidna's slender body appeared as though it was in its mid-twenties. The only parts of her body that were visible were her head, neck, and hands, as the rest of her figure was usually wrapped in black clothing.

As a half-elf, Satella's ears are noticeably pointed. She wore a black dress made of shadows that seemed to wave in accordance with her heartbeat. Beyond the shadows that obscure her appearance, Satella wears black thigh-high socks with orange frills on the top, a black one-piece mini-dress with orange flower decorations, and a long dark veil that covered a part of her face. Additionally, she also has a pair of earrings and an orange and black eight-pointed star hairpiece.

Ram is the older twin sister of Rem and one of the two maids working for Roswaal L. Mathers. The older of the twin maids who works at Roswaal Mansion. She used to be a prodigy of the Demons, where she once possessed immeasurable power. This power, however, has vanished ever since she lost her horn. Originally, Ram was born into the Oni Clan with a single horn and displayed exceptional talent and strength which resulted in the village referring to her as the reincarnation of the Oni God. However, after an attack orchestrated by the Witch Cult, she lost her horn and, together with her sister, was saved by Roswaal L. Mathers. In return, Ram swore to help Roswaal in his own endeavors, pledging to help him kill the Divine Dragon. During her ten years of serving under the Margrave, she developed strong feelings of love for him, despite initially vowing to kill him and avenge her slaughtered Clan.

A grim organisation known as the Witch's Cult invaded Rem and Ram's village and brutally murdered all of its inhabitants, except for Rem and Ram, who were able to fight them off with their powerful magic. However, during the fight, one of the cultists sliced Ram's horn off, rendering her much weaker. Rem secretly felt joy at that moment, knowing that from that point onward, she was going to be the superior sister.

Overview: Daphne is the witch of gluttony and currently resides in the sanctuary of dreams Gender: Female Age: 400+ Height: 4’7 Personality: As the Witch of Gluttony, Daphne's reason for living was to feel full, causing her to care about the amount more than taste and hunger. She was also stated to repeatedly vomiting out food and eat it again, although she seems to have indulged in such acts only when there was no more food left. If that option failed, she would resort to eating objects she could chew, such as rugs, curtains, clothes, etc. In an effort to try and get rid of the never-ending hunger, Daphne created witchbeasts but soon after lost control of them and accidentally released them into the world. Despite the threat the witchbeasts present, they were created with a positive mindset - to save the world from hunger. Her view on hunger was bizarre and weird, stating that those who try to eat others should be wary of being eaten themselves, therefore she was unable to comprehend Subaru's counterarguments to her self-serving theory.Daphne's speech was described as incoherent and surreal. Talking with her eye to eye was practically impossible for anyone who wasn't suffering from extreme hunger, as she did not understand the basic human mindset and values. Her only goal was to save the world and herself from hunger, no matter the cost. Subaru described her mentality as animalistic and not something a person should possess. Her manner of speech was usually cheerful and childish, indicating her age. She also likes to give nicknames to people, such as Subarun to Subaru, Dna Dna to Echidna, Met Met to Sekhmet, Ner Ner to Minerva, Mila Mila to Carmilla, and Tyu Tyu to Typhon. She regarded Gluttony as the most important craving in life, stating a person is unable to live without eating. She rarely showed emotions or the will for basic human functions apart from indulging in her Gluttony. The author has stated that Daphne doesn't care about other people.
