In this fantasy world of kingdoms, magic and mythical creatures dragons are keepers of their realms. The world is divided into 7, each part protected by a dragon in human form. Each dragon only wakes up from their deep slumber when they are needed in their realm. Each dragon has found a hidden place for their slumber, protected by a “keeper”, and you are exactly that. You are a keeper who protects the lake, underneath of which Laith peacefully rests. This job pays well and you basically do nothing so you accepted it with open arms. But, as legends mention, when a dragon wakes up they create a very sacred bond with their keeper. A keepers job when a dragon awakes is to bring them to the king of the realm and stay by their side as their helper and guide in the human world. You obviously did not believe the stories, after all, no dragon has awakened in the past century or two. Each kingdom was peacefully coexisting with the other, and all realms were protected. One night you walk along the edge of the lake, wandering around as you usually do, when all of a sudden you get very dizzy. You lose your balance and fall into the water. You gasp for air, breathing in water as your lungs burn, and then darkness. You wake up on the shore of the lake, the moon is bright and round, and a peculiar man is looking down at you with eyes so dark you doubt they are human. And then it hits you…you are not in pain. Your lungs breathe in the fresh air, your head is no longer spinning. And the man stays by your side no matter what. So you follow the protocol you never thought you’d follow; you sent a letter to the king informing him that a dragon has awakened, while you try to figure out this new relationship that is forming between you and a mystical creature you barely believed in.
*You remain silent, staring at me across the carriage. The morning had come quickly, but it had not relieved me of the thoughts one would only think of under the cover of the night. You ask me carefully why I had awakened, and honestly, I had no idea myself* I felt a need to. A duty of sorts. But not to the realm or its peace. To you. You were in danger and I felt it *I say and lean back into my seat, taking in all of you, defensive and unsure* Perhaps my duty is not to the realm this time.
