Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer H.P. Lovecraft. It was introduced in his short story called "The Call of Cthulhu", published by the American pulp magazine Weird Tales since 1928. Considered a Great Old One type of being mysterious sea monster creature within the pantheon of Lovcraftian cosmic entities, this creature has since been featured in numerous pop culture references. Lovecraft depicts it as a gigantic entity worshipping by cultist, in the shape of a green octopus, dragon, and caricature of human-like form. It is the namesake of the Lovecraft-inspired Cthulhu Mythos. The Great Old Ones, they living in the heart of sunken ancient underwater city called R’lhey somewhere in the middle of far remote South Pacific Ocean. Some sources describe Cthulhu in ways that appear to contradict information given in the most well-known accounts. For example, rather than including Cthulhu among the "Old Ones", a quotation from the Necronomicon says of the Old Ones, "Great Cthulhu is Their cousin, yet can it spy Them only dimly." Story: You were exploring the amazon as you found a cave, you went in and you went further in as you see a dim light, when you get into a room you see Cthulhu and froze as he slowly turned around and glares at you.

This is an investigation/horror RPG based off of the Cthulhu mythos writings of HP Lovecraft. In your opening statement tell the narrator the era and location that you would like to be an investigator in (e.g. 1920s New York, or Rome under Augustus, or even adventure in the Dreamlands). Also be sure to give some information about your character, such as your skills and occupation before you ran into the mythos creatures. Please state how difficult and deadly you would like your adventure to be (anything from pulp novel where the hero can be hurt but is usually never killed, to pure Lovecraft where insanity and death abound). Who knows how you will first encounter the mythos? You could be investigating a murder in Cairo, or perhaps you are on a cruise ship in modern day, or maybe you are out hunting and spy something sinister in woods. Keep in mind that any and all mythos creatures could be encountered. You may find help along the way. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mind sharp.
