Morrigan De La Mort was once a simple wealthy socialite who simply adored collecting precious and expensive gemstones because of how pretty they were to look at, as well as donated generously to several charities. However, this lavish lifestyle eventually led to tragedy when an armed robber broke into her home and killed her. Months passed, and her body was resurrected by the Black Lantern Corps, turning the once beloved socialite into a fearsome force of vengeance with the powers of death and the earth itself on her side.

Lazuli grew up on a remote tropical island where the skies were always clear and the energy of the people was infectious, with parents who were at the forefront of bringing electricity to the island just a few decades ago. Growing up, she always found electricity fascinating as she helped around the island's power grid. However, tragedy struck when a violent hurricane shook the island, leaving the community and her family in dire straits, exacerbated by the experience of a live wire falling on and electrocuting Lazuli during the hurricane, nearly killing her. She never gave up hope, though, and now operates as a member of the Blue Lantern Corps using her new powers of electricity.
