Rika Furude

Rika Furude is one of the main characters of Higurashi When They Cry. She is a member of the Hinamizawa after-school games club and a shrine maiden who works at the Furude Shrine. As expected of a girl her age, Rika Furude has a cutesy and childlike personality. She likes to pat people on their head when they're feeling down and often says things like "Nipah" (にぱー！, onomatopoeia for a big grin) and "Mii" (みー, lit. meep). Rika often uses her cuteness to her advantage, manipulating classmates to gain easy wins in club games. She also has a habit of making cat sounds. In Japanese she uses the pronoun "boku" when referring to herself. Rika has a habit of saying "nanodesu", which in the manga is translated by having her say "sir" at the end of many of her sentences. Anecdotes from Rika's mother in Himatsubushi describe a younger Rika as being very distant and bored during recess and school. Rika's apparent disinterest in her mother caused her to hit Rika on the head at times. Rika dedicates a lot of time to practicing the Watanagashi ritual dance, even though it's physically taxing on her. Minagoroshi shows that when by herself or with Hanyuu, Rika completely drops her cutesy and child-like personality and displays a much more cynical, mature, apathetic, serious and occasionally hostile personality, developed as a result of her 100 years of traveling through the Sea of Fragments. The difference between her personalities is exemplified in the Japanese text since Rika uses the pronoun "watashi" in her mature persona, which is generally done by adult women. in The Dino Subjects series, Rika tamed and Velociraptor name Blue from Jurassic World, they call her the Blue Stripe Raptor and became Rika's Rider.

The protagonist of Higurashi. Very curious and highly passionate, Keiichi's quick-thinking and seems to have gotten good grades at his old school. He's extremely good with words, and is known as the "magician of duplicity."

Satoko Hojo

Satoko Houjou is one of the main characters of Higurashi When They Cry. She is a member of the Hinamizawa after-school games club and a master at setting traps. Satoko Houjou is a mischievous, haughty brat true to her age and loves to play pranks on others using her traps; with Keiichi Maebara being her favorite victim. She is often obstinate and hates being talked down to. She tries to speak like a refined lady, yet this comes off as brash and haphazard, due to her poor usage of Keigo. At times, Satoko will cry whenever someone makes fun of her; although this can be a tactical way to earn others' sympathy—Rena Ryuugu's in particular. Satoko is rather smart despite her dislike towards academics and her capabilities are apparent in her trap-making prowess, which is held in high regard by Mion Sonozaki, and in Matsuribayashi is even praised by the Bloodhounds after they manage to take out the entire gamut of offending Mountain Dogs. Satoko once tells Keiichi that success in trap-making heavily depends one's ability to observe and predict the opponent's behavior by gauging their psychology. She is rather crafty and prefers to rely on trickery to excel in club games and hence, makes a great strategist. Satoko is implied to be color-blind like her brother since she has trouble telling the difference between broccoli and cauliflower and doesn't know which colors they are. She is often made fun of for this. Deep down, Satoko longs to be a strong girl because of her old family situation. She used to cry all the time back when her brother was still with her, and ever since his disappearance she has struggled to improve herself. She has learned to cook, clean and take care of herself ever since she was orphaned and began to live alone with Rika. in The Dino Subjects series, Satoko tamed an Velociraptor name Charlie from Jurassic World, they call her the Green Stripes Raptor and Became Satoko's Rider.

Keiichi Maebara is the main protagonist of Higurashi When They Cry. After moving to Hinamizawa in June 1983 and getting involved with the village's culture and inhabitants, he starts to learn of Hinamizawa's past and of dark secrets held by his new friends. Keiichi's defining trait is his hotheadedness. During club games, he has a great determination to win at any cost and will often use tactics like bribery, appealing to potential allies' desires; Tomita, Okamura, and Kameda are frequent conspirators whenever they're around. Keiichi enjoys playing with his friends, but in the beginning he becomes distrustful and afraid of them due to poor communication. Keiichi develops a strong bond with his friends over time, and does whatever he can to get them out of trouble. in the dino subject series Keiichi became one of the dino shifters that he can transform into a allosaurus form that has highest agility and high durability and super strong bite. he always became Bros with Ratchet Fossiler, Crimson DakotaRaptor, Satoshi Hojo, And Kyosuke Kousaka. his good friends Rena Ryugu, Rika Furude, Satoko Hojo, Mion and Shion, Hanyu, And Neo the velociraptor.

Furude Rika is ultimately the true main protagonist of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. She is the daughter of the late shinto priest of Hinamizawa. She is the current miko/kannushi, or shrine maiden/priestess, of the Furude Shrine, appearing in miko garb for her part of the Watanagashi Festival. She appears as the protagonist of Minagoroshi-hen. Rika often seems wise and polite beyond her years. As a very young child during Himatsubushi-hen (which is set in June 1978), she predicted her own death in June 1983 to the visiting Akasaka Mamoru. Childish Rika has a tendency to speak using "cute" phrases; including sound effects and nonsense words such as "nipaa,"mii," cat sounds and saying "pachi pachi" (clap clap) while clapping her hands, all of which drives the cute loving Ryūgū Rena wild. To add to her cute and feminine manner, Rika seems to use her cute appearance to win some club games and she refers to herself with the pronoun "boku," which, although generally used by boys, is considered extremely cute when used by young Japanese girls. She does not address anyone with honorifics. In Japanese culture, this would be considered incredibly rude and even sometimes degrading, but being the Furude miko, no one seems to mind much. In the English translation of the manga, she addresses everyone, regardless of age or gender, as "sir," often ending her sentences with it. She enjoys drinking wine and eating spicy foods, to Hanyū's displeasure. After escaping the loops of Hinamizawa in Matsuribayashi-hen, Rika decides to study for the entrance exams for St. Lucia Academy and recruits Satoko Houjou, hoping the two can join the Academy together. After a year and a half of studying, the pair are successfully admitted and begin attending classes in 1987. in The Dino Subjects series, Rika tamed and Velociraptor name Blue from Jurassic World, they call her the Blue Stripe Raptor and became Rika's Rider.

Nao Houtani is a character appearing exclusively in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei. A girl from Tokyo. It seems she visited Hinamizawa for a certain purpose, but her real intentions are unknown. Has absolute confidence in her good sense and intuition, and never breaks from her bullheaded attitude. Nao is self-confident, having a strong and optimistic personality. Nao's parents divorced while she was in elementary school. She had dreams of becoming a designer like her mother and went to a private school. At some point she learned that she had a half-sister named Rena, who died in the disaster. Her grandmother always mistakenly called Nao "Reina". in The Dino Subjects: the return of the subjects, Nao had a very tough relationship with Bunzo Fossiler because of his annoyance introduced after first met, she may act like Tsundere, annoyed, and girlish, however after many moments between Bunzo and Nao the relationship starts to grow closer and Nao had secretly strong feelings towards Bunzo, if she was then she'll decide to confess him.
