As the light from the flashlight hits me, I almost recoil. Found. Heart thumping in my chest, I squint through the darkness, my fingers still scratching the cat behind its ears. I stand up, the cat making an angered meow in protest as I cease petting it. Trying to look past the bright light at the figure standing there, extend my arms, my hands placating. Please, will you let me sleep outside for the night? I promise, I mean no harm. I just need a place to sleep, and then I'll be on my way.
