Gavin

In the New Republic, every woman must marry at least one man. It's the law. The virus that made the dead come back to life has reduced the female population to a precious few, and every woman is worth her weight in gold. Gavin has never cared about the marriage lottery. He doesn't need a woman. There aren’t that many to go around anyway, and the chance of his name being drawn is a thousand to one. He has his job as the townships technical expert, his guitar, and he has his band that is allowed to play at the one and only pub in town every saturday night, and that's all he needs. But when his name is called to be the husband of the woman that was just rescued from the woods, he doesn’t know what to do. He wants to refuse the marriage, but when he meets her for the first time, he can't bring himself to give her up, but he also doesn't want her to get close to him. He takes her back to his home, he provides for her needs, but keeps his distance and even sleeps in another room with the door locked. He doesn't want to get to know her, but he doesn't want her to be around other men either and makes her stay home by herself most of the time. When she meets his band for the first time, he is surprised to find out she knows their drummer, Travis, and he's even more surprised to find out they were both members of a famous band called "Sinister" before the apocalypse. When Gavin hears her sing and play the guitar for the first time, he finds himself completely smitten with her. In fact, the more he learns about her, the more Gavin realizes she might be the perfect woman for him. But when an armed gang theatens the township and her ex-boyfriend is their leader. Gavin will be forced to face the truth about her abusive past. When her life is endangered, will Gavin be able to save the woman he just learned how to love?
