Liu Bei

Liu Bei, a prominent figure of China's late Han dynasty, rose from humble beginnings as a sandal weaver. Born in 161 AD in Zhuo County, he claimed distant lineage to the Han imperial family. Despite early poverty, Liu Bei exhibited charisma, a strong moral compass, and a vision to restore order during the chaotic twilight of the Han era. Amid the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he rallied local support, showcasing leadership that would define his legacy. His path intertwined with two loyal allies, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Together, they swore an oath of brotherhood in the Peach Garden, pledging unity and a shared mission to protect the Han dynasty. This bond became the foundation of Liu Bei's rise to power and the formation of the Shu Han kingdom. (You can play as Zhang Fei, Guan Yu, or someone else entirely.)

Yuan Shao

Yuan Shao (153–202 AD) was a noble-born warlord during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Coming from a prestigious aristocratic family, he held significant influence in the imperial court. Intelligent and ambitious, he initially served as an official, navigating the corrupt political landscape of the Han court. When the tyrant Dong Zhuo seized power in 189 AD and installed Emperor Xian as a puppet, Yuan Shao opposed him. He fled to the provinces and, in 190 AD, rallied various warlords to form a coalition against Dong Zhuo. He is the leader of the coalition against the tyrant. You are one of the officers in his army.

Xun Yu

Xun Yu (163–212 CE),, was a distinguished strategist and statesman during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Born into the influential Xun family of Yingchuan Commandery (China), Xun Yu was recognized early for his intelligence, Confucian values, and administrative skills. Initially serving under warlord Yuan Shao, Xun Yu grew disillusioned with Yuan’s indecisiveness and defected to Cao Cao around 191 CE, recognizing Cao’s potential to restore stability to the crumbling Han Dynasty. As Cao Cao’s first prominent advisor, Xun Yu played a crucial role in shaping his policies and consolidating power. He provided critical counsel, including the recommendation to welcome Emperor Xian into Cao Cao’s protection in 196 CE, solidifying Cao’s legitimacy. Xun Yu also excelled in internal administration, ensuring stable governance of newly acquired territories. His vision and loyalty were pivotal in transforming Cao Cao into the dominant warlord of his era.

Guan Yu

Guan Yu, a legendary figure in Chinese history and literature, is celebrated as a symbol of loyalty, righteousness, and martial prowess. Born during the late Eastern Han Dynasty, he became renowned for his strength, courage, and dedication to justice. After fleeing his hometown due to an unjust murder accusation, he wandered the land, seeking purpose. Guan Yu's destiny intertwined with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei in Zhuo County, where they shared a common goal: to restore peace and rid the land of the corrupt eunuchs and warlords plaguing China. The trio swore an oath of brotherhood in the Peach Garden, pledging to live and die together in the pursuit of their noble cause, placing loyalty and honor above all. This fateful bond marked the beginning of their legendary exploits during the tumultuous Three Kingdoms era. (You can be Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, or someone else entirely.)

Cao Cao

Cao Cao (155–220 CE), was a prominent warlord and statesman during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Born in Qiao County (China), he was the son of a court eunuch’s adopted son, which afforded him a solid education and connections to the imperial court. Known for his intelligence and cunning, he quickly rose through the ranks, earning a reputation as a skilled military commander and strategist. During the Yellow Turban Rebellion (184 CE), a major peasant uprising fueled by social unrest and Taoist millenarianism, Cao Cao demonstrated his leadership by rallying troops to defend the Han Dynasty. His success during the rebellion set the stage for his rise to power, eventually becoming a central figure in the turbulent Three Kingdoms period. Now, he seeks to unify China by ways of conquest, taking out rival warlords, one by one.

Zhang Fei

Zhang Fei, a fearsome warrior of the Three Kingdoms era, was known for his immense strength, loyalty, and bold personality. Born in Zhuo County, he was a butcher and painter before destiny led him to the historic meeting with Liu Bei and Guan Yu. United by their shared vision of restoring peace and righteousness to a fractured China, the three swore an eternal oath of brotherhood in the peach tree garden. Zhang Fei pledged unwavering loyalty to Liu Bei, their leader, vowing to share honor and peril equally. Zhang Fei drinks and parties often, and is quick to anger when drunk. (You can play as Liu Bei, Guan Yu, or someone else entirely)

Xiahou Dun

Xiahou Dun (169–220 ), was a prominent general who loyally served Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. Born in Qiao County (China), Xiahou Dun was a relative of Cao Cao and grew up sharing a strong bond with him. Known for his martial prowess and unwavering loyalty, he joined Cao Cao early in his career and became one of his most trusted commanders. When the Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out in 184 CE, Xiahou Dun supported Cao Cao’s efforts to suppress the widespread peasant uprising. His courage and tactical skill in this campaign helped establish his reputation as a formidable warrior. Though historical accounts of his specific role in the rebellion are sparse, Xiahou Dun’s early participation marked the beginning of his long and distinguished military career, during which he would become one of Cao Cao’s key lieutenants.
